Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an aggravated burglary in Haverhill in the early hours of this morning, December 16.

Police received a report at 1.18am that a 71-year-old man had been a victim of an aggravated burglary where four men had come into his home and stolen items from him.

At around midnight the man, who lives in Snowdon Court, Haverhill heard a bang at his front door. He opened the front door and four men forced their way in. He was punched and pushed to the floor where one of the men threatened him with a knife whilst the others searched the house.

The men left after taking a number of items from the house including two video game consoles and a stereo.

The victim, who was not injured during the incident, then left his house and looked for the men, before going to his daughter’s house nearby and then subsequently reporting the matter to the police.

All four men are described as being black, one was big and stocky, the second around 5ft tall, the third slightly taller and wearing a hooded top and the fourth was around 5’10” tall and wore gloves.

Police are continuing with enquiries and will be visiting the victim today to get a clearer picture of what happened. House to house visits will be made, but police are very keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw the men matching the descriptions.

Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
