Three companies and one company director will face charges in relation to the deaths in Great Yarmouth.
Daniel Hazelton, 30, and Adam Taylor, 28, both of Rickinghall, and Thomas Hazelton, 26, and Peter Johnson, 42, both of Stanton were killed on January 21 2011 at Claxton Engineering, in North River Road.
The four worked for Stanton-based contractor Hazegood Construction and were tragically killed when the large underground steel cage they were working in collapsed. In 2013 the CPS decided not to pursue criminal charges of manslaughter against any parties.
Today (January 26) the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) charged Claxton Engineering Services Ltd, of Ferryside, Ferry Road, Norfolk, under Section Three of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HSWA).
They also charged Encompass Project Management Ltd, of The Gables, Old Market Street, Thetford, Norfolk, under Section Three of the HSWA and David Groucott, Director of Encompass Project Management Ltd, under Section 37 of the HSWA.
Hazegood Construction Ltd, of Bury Lodge, Bury Road, Stowmarket, were charged under Sections Two and Three of the HSWA.
The four friends, who are remembered with a memorial at The Cock Inn in Stanton and memorials in Rickinghall, were working in a tennis court-sized cage below ground level at part of a £1.5million test facility for offshore pipes.
An inquest in 2014 ruled that they died as the result of an accident.
The four parties charged by the HSE have been summoned to appear at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court at 2pm on February 2.
