A CHICKEN keeper had a shock when he opened an egg - and found another inside.
David Muncey made the strange discovery after finding a large egg in one of his hen's nests.
“It was about the size of a goose egg,” said Mr Muncey, of Hunter's Chase, Ardleigh.
“I thought 'I've never seen a normal size hen lay an egg as big as that'.
“When I picked it up it felt very funny - as if it had jelly in it.
“When we opened it up there was a yolk inside, but also another, separate egg.”
Mr Muncey, 66, who used to run a poultry farm at Leavenheath, said he had kept thousands of chickens over the years, although he currently has 10 Rhode Island Reds and seven Banthams.
He started keeping chickens when he was 13, he said yesterday.
“It was like one egg over the frame of another, he added.
“I've seen a double-yolked egg but never anything like this.
“This was an egg with a difference.”
