A HOUSE was badly damaged and a lorry carrying four cars destroyed by a blaze in Essex this afternoon.

Eight fire crews from across the county battled the flames, which took hold at a property in Honeypot Lane, Tolleshunt Knights at 2.35pm.

The roof and the top floor of the two-storey property were devastated in the blaze, which was finally extinguished at 5.30pm.

Assistant Divisional Officer Danny Fearn, of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The remainder of the building has declared structurally unsound and will have to be demolished.

“The fire also destroyed a car transporter lorry and four cars which were on it.

“Crews had a difficult job and faced problems with water supply because of the remote location of this incident.

“A full investigation will now take place to establish the cause of the fire.”

Crews are expected to remain on site until midnight.
