A new study has found that UK women tend to be more perceptive than men when it comes to determining another person’s emotion based only on their eyes and eyebrows, especially when it comes to vulnerability.
However, men, were found to be good at noticing emotions related to lust and anger.
In the research based on the emotion recognition task from Professor Simon Baron Cohen, of the University of Cambridge, more than 10,000 people were shown the eyes of two people - one man, one woman - and tasked with selecting the correct emotion from four different options.
The findings revealed that the East of England has the greatest visual intelligence with respondents scoring an average of 5.3 out of 10 compared to 4.5 in London.
The emotions of boredom, shock and pleading were the easiest to detect.
Women believe their emotional intelligence is superior to men, and according to the data, that was proved right.
The average score for women was five, whereas the men’s average was 4.8.
