Police have refused to comment on the news, but it is known officers have been actively searching for the body of Moors Murders victim Keith Bennett for the last three years.
However, the grim find is not thought to be connected to the infamous murders carried out by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady.
West Yorkshire police said they were called to the moor, near Huddersfield, at around 1pm and inquiries were ongoing.
