An inmate who climbed onto the roof of Chelmsford prison has been persuaded down after more than 30 hours.
The prisoner is believed to have got onto the roof around midday yesterday, but it’s not clear why he did so.
The man had been waving to people from his position on top of HMP Chelmsford, according to reports on social media.
Sandford Road was blocked off by police during the incident.
The prison service confirmed around 6.40pm today the man had come down from the roof.
A spokesman said: “The incident was successfully resolved with no injuries to staff or the prisoner.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will push for the strongest possible punishment.”
