DETECTIVES investigating the rape of a woman in Ipswich released CCTV images today of a man they are looking to speak to.

Officers said they are keen to identify the man and to discover his whereabouts.

The rape occurred at about 2.30am on Wednesday, December 29.

A 27-year-old woman from the town had been on a night out with a friend in Pals in the Cattle Market.

She left the club and decided to find a taxi in order to return home.

The woman struck up a conversation with a man outside Pals and they walked together towards Liquid nightclub in Cardinal Park in order to get a taxi.

The attack then took place in the grounds of St Nicholas Centre on Franciscan Way. After the attack, the woman ran into the road and flagged down a passing motorist who called the police.

Her attacker is described as a white man, aged late 20s to mid 30s, approximately 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall, and was wearing a hooded top.

A team of officers has been investigating the incident but so far no arrests have been made. Two CCTV images have now been released.

They show a man detectives would like to speak to in relation to this incident.

Detective Sergeant Panicos Monk of Ipswich CID said: “We are keen to identify the man in the CCTV images and are asking anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

“I urge anyone who has any information that could assist with this enquiry to contact Ipswich CID without delay.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images or who has any other information in relation to this incident is asked to call Ipswich CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
