There wasn’t an empty seat or a dry eye in the house when comedian Michael McIntyre came to the Regent.

Saturday was the first of two appearances in the town. He’s back this Friday for another sold-out show.

The Comedy Roadshow star is trying out new material ahead of his third and biggest UK arena tour, which kicks off this August.

As it was a work in progress, no official reviews were allowed.

Earlier in the show the former Britain’s Got Talent judge joked about bad reviews being posted online. However he clearly had nothing to fear from the audience who could be seen tweeting and texting during the interval as they laughed.

Here is a selection of the tweets:

Donna Hoggard-Marsh: “Michael McIntyre funny funny man. Just seen you at Ipswich Regent - brilliant.”

Darren Simons: “Just saw Michael McIntyre at Ipswich Regent. He was amazing, my jaw hurts from laughing so much.”

Colin Low: “Watching Michael McIntyre in Ipswich. So good that he’s prepared to come to outposts like this.”

Fans who managed to get tickets for this Friday are in for a treat.
