FIREFIGHTERS were called to a small fire in the underground cabling at the junction of Grove Lane and Spring Road at 5.30 this afternoon.
A crew from Princes Street was alerted to reports of smoke coming from manholes.
The cables supply power to the traffic lights in the area.
The fire was extinguished by 6.30 but an engineer from Ipswich Borough Council has been sent to the scene to assess the damage.
