IPSWICH: A teenager today relived the moment when he, his girlfriend and her younger sister, were nearly killed when their car was rammed off the A14.

Shianne Holland, 16, of Burghley Close, Ipswich, spent five days in intensive care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital after Cullum Ramsey’s Ford Fiesta was hit by another vehicle while travelling at nearly 60mph.

Miss Holland is likely to face a second operation and a further spell in the critical care unit.

Mr Ramsey, of Pembroke Close, Ipswich, and Shianne’s sister Denise, 18, of Shenstone Drive, Ipswich, were also injured.

Police are now hunting the driver who shunted Mr Ramsey’s car into a tree-lined embankment. He was driving a silver 4x4 towing a black trailer with a white speed boat on it.

The crash occurred near Newmarket as Shianne, Denise, and Mr Ramsey were on their way to a family wedding.

Mr Ramsey was in the middle lane of the carriageway, aware that slow-moving traffic might be pulling into the inside lane from the slip road out of a petrol filling station.

The 18-year-old said: “A member of Denise’s family was behind us and someone with a silver 4x4 towing a trailer cut her up.

“He came right up close behind me and starting flashing his lights.

“He overtook me. I looked across, and his passenger was grinning and laughing at me.

“The trailer hadn’t gone past and the driver started swerving into my lane, by the look of it trying to force me across the road.

“He did this a couple of times. I think he was trying to frighten us.

“The trailer hit the side of my car. I lost control, went into the verge and crashed into the trees. I was scared stiff.”

When the car came to a halt, Mr Ramsey heard both girls groaning in pain. Unable to get out of the driver’s side, he climbed over Denise in the front passenger seat, opened her door, and got her out of the vehicle.

However, Shianne – who was sitting behind her sister – told him not to move her.

Mr Ramsey said: “All I could smell was this horrible petrol-type smell coming from the engine, but it didn’t catch alight.”

Firefighters had to cut Shianne out of the Fiesta. Mr Ramsey added: “They said we were lucky to come out of it alive.”

Shianne sustained internal bleeding and was operated on in Cambridge. She has two fractured bones in her back and is likely to need further surgery.

Denise suffered a fractured right cheek, and fractured bone in her lower back, along with internal bleeding. Mr Ramsey sustained a fractured shoulder, cracked collarbone, and two cracked ribs.

His mother, Karen, said: “We thank God Cullum and the girls are alive, and just want this driver found.”
