A Suffolk radio station was forced to play background music for most of this morning because of last night’s storm, which caused the roof of a building close to its transmitter to be ripped off.

Staff at Great Blakenham-based Town 102 say they have now been back live on air since 1pm, but that for most of today, they have had to play music on a loop.

A statement on the station’s website read: “The high winds, which passed through Suffolk overnight last night, caused the roof of a building close to our transmitter to be ripped off.

“The metal sheeting brought down the fence surrounding our secure site at Warren Heath, as well as break the cables which link up to our studios in Great Blakenham.”
