A shoplifter caught stealing food worth £320 from an Asda store in Ipswich has been ordered to pay fines and costs of £140.
When Lynn Baxter, of Clifford Road, Ipswich, was asked why she had done it by the clerk at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court she replied: “It is what it is – there isn’t really an explanation as to why”.
The 48-year-old had earlier admitted theft on March 10.
Prosecutor Tess Mann said staff at Asda saw Baxter fill her trolley up and push it out of the store without paying. Mrs Mann said Baxter, who has no previous convictions, did not have a receipt and insisted she had paid for the goods, but then conceded she had not.
