More than 20,000 visitors are expected to flock to the seaside on Sunday for one of the region’s biggest displays of vintage vehicles.
Hundreds more will see the Ipswich to Felixstowe Historic Vehicle Run leave Christchurch Park in Ipswich and line the route as the cavalcade makes its way to the coast.
It is the 48th year the run – organised by volunteers at the Ipswich Transport Museum – has been held and is one of the most popular in East Anglia and this year will feature more than 500 vehicles, including cars, lorries, motorcycles, buses and military vehicles.
Those taking part will gather in the park from 8.30am to 10.30am, setting off for Felixstowe at 11am.
Traditionally, spectators line the exit driveway to see them go out of the Westerfield Road gate, from which they take a route along Valley Road, Colchester Road, Heath Road, Bixley Road, Felixstowe Road, on to the Old A45 at Levington, and then through the Trimleys to Felixstowe.
The first cars are expected to arrive just after noon and the rally will line-up on the prom for the afternoon – most staying until around 5pm.
Erosion of the beach during fierce winter storms has meant that some beach huts cannot be put back onto the shore at the moment and so some of the cars will be on a different part of the prom this year.
Visit Felixstowe said the display would be each side of the Pier and Beachside Events Area.
There will also be displays of larger and commercial vehicles on the road between the Spa Pavilion and Felixstowe Town Hall with traffic restrictions in place.
Ipswich Transport Museum said there would be more than 500 entries and applications to take part had been successfully filled long in advance.
People attending Sunday’s event can expect to see some fine examples of a range of vehicles dating back to the early years of the 20th century, as well as those from the 1930s, 40s, 50 and 60s – and as entries have to be at least 30 years old there will be some newer examples, too.
Many owners bring their lovingly looked after vehicles back year after year but there will be some that have not taken part before.
Ipswich Transport Museum is open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11 am to 4 pm.
