A MAJOR project to transform the town’s road system is causing traffic chaos today.

Work has today begun on the 21 million Travel Ipswich project to convert the Civic Drive roundabout into a junction controlled by traffic lights.

Work on the junction is due to continue until April next year – although it will be suspended between late November and early January to ease disruption over the Christmas period.

Long queues are already forming today, despite assurances from Travel Ipswich project manager Clive Wilkinson that the work would be timed to cause as little disruption as possible.
