A football fan has missed his first home game in 37 years to be at his stepdaughter’s wedding.
Avid Wolves fan Peter Abbott, 57, from Ipswich, has watched more than 1,900 home games since 1976 but had to give the football a miss on Saturday to be by the side of his stepdaughter.
Mr Abbott was given a shock at the wedding when his favourite Wolves footballer, ex-player Steve Bull, turned up at the reception.
“When I turned round and saw Bully at the reception, I was gobsmacked,” Mr Abbott said. “I couldn’t believe it. Bully is a real hero of mine, and I’m incredibly grateful to him, the club and Football League sponsors Sky Bet for making this all happen. It really did make it a very special day.”
The ex-striker came along with a signed shirt and matchday programme from the weekend’s League One game against Coventry.
