Kesgrave has been crowned the ‘most active’ town in Suffolk.

Sport participation and physical activity levels were the highest in Kesgrave in the county last year, Suffolk County Council said.

A spokesman for the Kesgrave War Memorial Community Centre said: “(The award) acknowledges opportunities available for the community to take part in sport, physical activity and active recreation and will hopefully raise awareness of what is available.”

Brantham was named as the large village winner. Sarah Keys, clerk of Brantham Parish Council, said: “The award is a testament to all the hard work and commitment of those involved in making this a vibrant and exciting place to live.” John Morris, parish council chairman of Middleton-cum-Fordley, which won the small village category, said: “This is proof that a small community of a typical ageing demographic can confound the cliché that we have all ‘come here to die’. I am pleased that the village has been recognised this way.”
