Anglian Water has closed part of a town centre road in Ipswich today and it is expected to be closed until tomorrow morning.
The utilities company say they are working to ensure no households are without water.
Water started leaking out of a burst water main in Key Street earlier today and Anglian Water were called to repair it.
They have closed one lane entering town and extra traffic congestion has been reported in the area.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for the traffic disruption on Key Street today. We’ve had to close one lane (going towards town) as we have a burst water main which we need to repair.
“The repair will take place later this afternoon and we’re aiming to do everything we can to keep the water on throughout. We’re planning to have the lane reopened and things back to normal by the morning, but we appreciate this is a busy stretch of road, and we are sorry for any delays caused.”
