A GROUP of former Suffolk servicemen are hoping to track down the members of a patrol pictured together in the Malaysian jungle.

The Leiston and district branch of the Suffolk Regiment Old Comrades Association was asked for helped in identifying the young men carrying out national service in the early 1950s.

The association’s Jim Taylor was sent the photograph by ‘Tug’ Wilson, of the Lowestoft branch, who was part of the section on patrol in the jungle.

Mr Taylor said: “We are trying to identify members of this patrol, as it is possible some would be from the Leiston area.

“In the early 50s, many young national service men served in places like Malaya. Quite a few died. They brought honour on themselves, their regiments, and their country.

“Mostly 18 to 23, they were conscripted into the services and sent where needed, and did what had to be done.”
