Ipswich is ablaze with festive cheer thanks to the glistening blue and white Christmas lights which were ceremoniously switched on last Sunday.

But when will Bury St Edmunds, Framlingham and Colchester follow suit and officially launch their Christmas celebrations?

Here we bring you details of the various Christmas light switch on events taking place in Suffolk and north Essex in coming week.

Thursday, November 20

Bury St Edmunds - The town will be alive with Christmas cheer with the ever-popular reindeer and penguins returning for the night of Christmas fun. The celebrations start at 2pm, and at 7pm BBC Radio DJ Mark Murphy will do the honours.

Friday, November 28

Beccles - the lights switch on will take place at 5.45pm in the town.

Stowmarket - The Voice contestant Jade Mayjean Peters will be lighting up the town at 6.30pm.

Kesgrave - Crowds will gather by the Scout Hut to see the lights switched on at 6.20pm, and Father Christmas is expected to make a guest appearance.

Sudbury - BBC Radio Suffolk DJ Mark Murphy will be in town to switch on the lights.

Saturday, November 29

Felixstowe - A Christmas craft market will be held around Hamilton Road and Felixstowe Triangle Canopy from 10am, carol singers will offer seasonal entertainment and Santa will be taking orders in his grotto. There will be more live entertainment and a children’s candlelight parade as the town builds up to the lights switch on at 5pm.

Framlingham - The castle town will be lit up at 6pm

Aldeburgh - Times for the annual lights switch on are yet to be confirmed.

Woodbridge - A Christmas craft market will take place during the day, ahead of the Christmas lights switch on. Visit Santa in his grotto, join in with the carol singing, and enjoy all the live entertainment throughout the day.

Sunday, November 30

Colchester - Fireworks will herald the official start of the countdown to Christmas in Colchester. In the build up to the light switch on there will be entertainment in Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard from local dance and singing groups, as well as a visit from Santa. The lights will go an at 4.30pm, fireworks will be let off and then there will be an Advent carol service in Lion Walk.

Braintree - Park for 10p in George Yard, Manor Street and Victoria Street and join the fun in Braintree from 11am. Market stalls will line the High Street and Bank Street and a craft market will be set up in Braintree Town Hall, offering lots of Christmas gift ideas. Plus there will be staged entertainment in the Town Square hosted by Heart FM favourites Martin and Su. Father Christmas Tigger will switch the lights on at 4.30pm.

Hadleigh - Doing the honours in Hadleigh will be children’s favourite Peppa Pig. The cartoon giant will switch on the lights at 5pm.

Friday, December 5

Southwold - celebrations will start at 6.30pm and the lights will be officially turned on at 7pm at The Swan Hotel, in the Market Place

Saturday, December 6

Clacton - There will be a whole day of Christmas fun in the seaside town, including a festive window display competition, music and dance before the stars from the West Cliff Theatre’s Christmas Variety Show switch on the lights along with a local woman who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease whose wish it has always been to turn on the Christmas lights at 5pm. Festivities continue until 7pm and many shops will remain open late.
