AS the rest of the county was toasting the start of a New Year at midnight, staff at West Suffolk Hospital were getting ready to welcome the first Suffolk baby of 2011 into the world.

Little Liam Haill was born at 12.19am to proud parents Leah Bowers and Shaun Haill, who live in Stowmarket.

Liam, the couple’s first child, weighed in at 9lbs 8oz.

“He was due on Christmas Eve,” said Leah, 23. “So by then we just wanted him to come as quickly as possible.

“It’s like a miracle. It’s lovely that he was born on New Year’s Day.

“He’s home with us now so we’re just settling him in.”
