DRIVERS using the A14 were facing delays today after a serious lorry fire.
Emergency services had to close the eastbound lane on one of the busiest stretches of the dual carriageway after the blaze broke out in an articulated truck heading into Suffolk.
The road was closed at Girton at 5.12am. Firefighters found the lorry “well alight” and it was more than an hour before they could start to bring it under control.
Insp Terry Furlong, of Cambridgeshire police, said: “We are working as hard as we can to make sure the road is made safe as soon as possible and traffic is flowing befrore the rush hour.”
The lorry was not carrying dangerous goods and no-one is believed to have been injured.
