BUILDINGS were evacuated in Lowestoft this morning after a gas cylinder was reportedly leaking inside a van.
The alarm was raised with fire crews around 10.05am.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said surrounding buildings have been evacuated while fire fighters attempt to open and ventilate the van.
Police were also called to the incident in Whapload Road, close to the junction with Wilde Street. to help manage traffic while the 100 metre cordon was set up.
A spokeswoman for the police said the incident was “potentially dangerous” but that firefighters quickly declared the scene safe.
The incident was under control by 10.30am.
