POLICE in Lowestoft are appealing for witnesses following an allegation of sexual assault.

Police were called at approximately 3.40am on Saturday morning February 2 with a report that a 21-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted by a man in a field off Britten Road in Lowestoft.

The woman had spent the evening in town and was making her way home when she was approached by a man who pushed her down into a field and sexually assaulted her before making off.

An area around Britten Field off Britten Road in Lowestoft has been cordoned off whilst officers carry out an investigation.

The man is described as white, of medium build and in his mid-20s. He had short shaven hair and wore a tracksuit.

An initial account has been taken from the victim and specialist officers are working with her to establish exactly what happened.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a lone female walking in the area of The Avenue, Tom Crisp Way, Britten Road, Britten Field and Delius Close in Lowestoft between 2am and 3.30am Saturday morning.
