Junior martial arts enthusiasts in Suffolk have received police funding support to buy new practice mats.
Pc Malcolm Leggett presented £300 to the Iceni Judo Club for the new equipment, which he raised through collections from officers and staff at the police station in Old Nelson Street, Lowestoft.
The judo club meets every Monday and Thursday at the Waveney Sports Centre in Lowestoft, offering sessions for around 70 children and young people, run by a small number of adult volunteers. Its current mats are reported to be almost beyond repair and require replacing at the cost of about £100 each.
Pc Leggett, of the Lowestoft North Safer Neighbourhood Team, carries out ongoing fundraising activities for a variety of charities and community groups.
A police spokesman said: “The club runs a valuable service to the local community and purchasing new mats, which are about £100 each, will enable the club to carry on providing a safe training environment.”
