A STARSTRUCK youngster is flying out to Portugal to take to the pitch alongside his footballing heroes on Sunday.

Patrick Hook-Willers, has been selected as one of 11 lucky children, who will hold hands with the England team as they start their tournament against the holders and favourites, France.

Patrick was nominated by his mum Moira Hook, 38 and picked from thousands of youngsters in the contest organized by fast food giant, McDonalds.

Each of the 16 teams in Euro 2004 will be paired with mascots as they head out onto the pitch.

As the pair, who live near Chelmsford, were leaving Heathrow last nightMrs Hook said: "He loves his football and has a real desire to meet the team.

"His brother Karl is autistic and it can be tough for Patrick but he helps out, helping him with cleaning his teeth and tying his shoes.

"This will be a wonderful opportunity for him and something he can remember."

She added she had not flown for 17 years and was very nervous.
