A cancer charity has benefitted from a donation of nearly £2,000 thanks to a golf tournament.

The annual 32nd Inter Club Veterans Trophy contest was held at Hintlesham Golf Club on July 19 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

More than £1,800 was raised by dozens of local businesses, including Greene King, and the generosity of the players.

Helen Taggart, fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We cannot thank the organisers enough for choosing to support our local Macmillan Services through this donation.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of the teams who took part, and the event sponsors, Macmillan is one step closer to funding a new Macmillan nurse to support families affected by cancer in Ipswich and the surrounding area.

“Macmillan rely entirely on donations from the public to fund local services, and it means the world to us when a club or organisation can help us make a difference.”
