TWO people are tonight being questioned by police after a man was allegedly attacked with a machete and bundled into a car in broad daylight.

The assault happened in London Road, Clacton at about 12.30pm today and witnesses reported seeing two cars pull up before a fight took place.

A man was then struck with a machete before being bundled into a car and driven off.

Neighbours reported the commotion and police were called to the scene and the Essex Police helicopter was sent up over nearby Jaywick.

A man and woman were tracked down and arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently being questioned by detectives in Clacton.

However, the alleged victim has gone missing and police are appealing for him to contact them.

It is not known how serious the man's injuries are and officers are not regarding the incident as a kidnapping at this stage.

Homes were taped off this afternoon in the area close to the fire station as officers carried out investigations.

Traffic going in and out of the town became congested as a result of the incident, and there were also two minor collisions as drivers slowed to see what was happening.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “We would like the victim of this alleged assault to come forward to help us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should contact Clacton police on 01255 221312 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
