A man has been charged after a hazardous liquid leaked from a lorry in Suffolk yesterday.

Kestutis Rakevicius, 43, from Kaunas in Lithuania, was charged with careless driving and driving a vehicle carrying a dangerous insecure load after the incident in Creeting St Mary.

Police were at the roundabout at the junction of the A14 and A140 around 9.10am yesterday when they became aware of a curtain-sided lorry.

Seconds later, a container fell from the vehicle as it drove into Kettle Lane and a hazardous liquid, a solution of the chemical Acrylamide, began to leak.

Officers stopped the vehicle and the road was closed while the incident was dealt with by police.

The road was closed until shortly after 5.15pm while the area was cleared.

Mr Rakevicius was arrested at the scene. He has now been charged and has been detained in custody overnight pending an appearance before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ in Ipswich this morning.
