A man has been charged with attempted murder in relation to an attack on a woman in Jaywick on Saturday evening.
Police were called to Meadow Way in the village at about 11.45pm following reports a woman in her 40s had been injured with a bladed weapon, which police believe to be a meat cleaver.
She was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
Kerry Roberts, 48, unemployed and of no fixed abode, was today charged with attempted murder.
He appeared at Colchester Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody until a plea and case management hearing on Monday, January 12, at Chelmsford Crown Court.
