A MAN has been charged after he allegedly used racist language in the centre of an Essex town at the weekend.
Police were on a routine patrol in Chelmsford High Street at about 7pm on Saturday when they heard the man making “racist remarks”.
The 48-year-old was arrested and later charged with racially aggravated harassment; using threatening behaviour in a public place and with one count of assaulting a police officer.
He has been released on police bail and is set to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford on January 28.
