The jury in the trial of a Suffolk dog owner accused of threatening and trying to bribe a man who was bitten by his dog in a bid to get him to drop the charges against him has retired to consider its verdicts.

Before Ipswich Crown Court is Ollie Deeks, 25, of Fornham Road, Bury St Edmunds, who has denied intimidation and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The court has heard that Michael Harrison, 32, was at his bedsit in Haverhill in April last year when he was bitten on the wrist by Deeks’ dog.

He subsequently underwent surgery and spent several weeks in hospital.

He reported the matter to the police on May 3 last year and two days later Deeks allegedly tried to “buy his silence” by offering him money in a text message.

He had also allegedly made a threatening call to Mr Harrison about what would happen to him if he didn’t drop the charges.

Giving evidence Deeks denied trying to buy Mr Harrison’s silence and denied threatening him in a telephone call.

The case continues tomorrow, Thursday, February 15.
