A MAN has drowned after he jumped into the sea from a pier in a coastal Essex town.
The incident happened yesterday afternoon at about 1.45pm when the man, thought to be aged between 60 and 75, leapt from Clacton Pier into the cold water below.
Lifeboat crews managed to pull him out of the water within minutes and the Essex Air Ambulance was scrambled but it was too late to save the man.
A police spokesman said: “A mobility scooter was found at the end of the pier and a body of a man was found floating out to sea.”
