FIREFIGHTERS were called into action after a man tried to drive his car across the Strood at West Mersea shortly after high tide.
Crews from Colchester and West Mersea were alerted at 2.22am today and found that the man was no in immediate danger and did not need the RNLI to attend.
He was led to safety by firefighters at just before 3.15am.
