A man has been jailed for 38 months after admitting to causing a serious collision on the A12 at Kelvedon that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Ashley Jackson, 29, of Hunters Hall Road, Dagenham, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance and driving without a licence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.

On Tuesday, October 21, just before 1am, a Mitzubishi left the northbound carriageway of the A12 while travelling over a bridge and landed on the B1024.

The emergency services attended and rushed a woman in her 30s to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Jackson was charged the next day.

Detective Sergeant Adam High from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Jackson was driving a stolen Mitsubishi Shogun dangerously when he lost control and left the carriageway to the nearside, causing serious life changing injuries – including skull fractures – to a passenger within the vehicle.

“This was a terrible collision with serious consequences for a woman and her family, and I hope that it brings some semblance of closure and comfort to the injured party.

“His reckless actions have caused physical and emotional trauma to the victim, and we work every day to ensure such incidents like this happen as infrequently as possible on our roads.

“Where they do happen, we work tirelessly to ensure that offenders see their day in court.”

Jackson was handed 38 months in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and an 18 month term for aggravated vehicle taking, to run concurrently.

He has also been disqualified from driving for four years, at the end which he will be required to take an extended test.
