The gang struck in Duddery Road, Haverhill, in the early hours of Saturday and police are now appealing for anyone who saw the “nasty” incident to come forward.

A police spokesman said that although the victim, thought to be in his 20s, was unhurt he was upset by the robbery: “He is still very shaken by this nasty, unprovoked attack and we would appeal for anyone who saw what happened or people with any information to contact us immediately.

The robbers fled once their victim had handed over money, said the spokesman.

One of the men is 6ft tall, of stocky build and in his late 20s. He had short dark hair, was clean-shaven and was wearing a formal dark jacket and trousers and dark shoes.

His accomplice is 5ft 8in tall, in his late 20s and of stocky built. He had dark hair, was clean-shaven and was wearing dark suit style jacket and trousers and dark shoes. Both robbers spoke with what is described as a local accent.

The robbery follows an attack on a teenager by two men in Bury St Edmunds on Thursday evening. The 19-year-old victim was punched in the face as he walked on the footpath between B&Q and the multi-storey car park before the robbers snatched his wallet.
