A FULL scale rescue was averted after the skipper of a yacht fell overboard in the River Deben, sparking fears for his safety.
Coastguards received a Mayday call from the man’s wife aboard the Nicty Corat reporting that he was in the water at the entrance to the river.
The woman kept emergency services informed of the situation, however, her husband had managed to clamber back on board just after 12.05pm yesterday.
By this time though, Harwich RNLI inshore lifeboat and numerous other vessels in the area had been alerted and asked to respond to the call.
They were subsequently stood down once it was established the skipper was safe and well.
