A MAN is today in a stable condition after undergoing surgery when he severed his arm with a chainsaw.
The 38-year-old was airlifted to hospital on Friday following an accident involving a chainsaw as he was trimming hedgerow.
Doctors from emergency medical charity Magpas were flown to the scene in Knodishall to give life-saving first aid to the man who had lacerated an artery in his left arm after losing grip of the chainsaw.
The horrific incident happened at the man's house in Saxmundham Road at around 11am.
The doctors, from medical charity Magpas, applied a tourniquet and administered pain relief and antibiotics before escorting the victim to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Although it was thought at first that his condition was “limb-threatening”, there has been no amputation.

A hospital spokesman said the patient is now in a “comfortable position” after having surgery to repair nerve and tendon damage to his arm.
Deborah Florence, spokeswoman for Magpas, said “Thanks to the very sophisticated training Magpas volunteer doctors and paramedics receive, our emergency medical team were able to deliver an advanced level of pre-hospital medical care at the scene.
“It is through our working partnerships with the East of England Ambulance Trust and the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity that we are able to deliver such a rapid and co-ordinated response in these circumstances.”
