The incident took place at around 1.05pm yesterday.
Thames Coastguard picked up a mayday call from the yacht Kathleen Two, reporting that a member of the crew was unwell.
The Harwich RNLI all-weather lifeboat was diverted from exercise and the Harwich Inshore Lifeboat was also launched to collect the casualty.
Once the lifeboats were alongside, the man was given oxygen and transferred ashore to an awaiting ambulance and taken to Colchester Hospital.
