A market in Suffolk’s smallest town – which was reinstated last year after a 20-year absence – is returning following a winter break.

Clare market, which includes around 20 stalls selling bread, cheese, pies, organic fruit and vegetables and homeware, is back on Saturday.

Each market includes a free stall for Clare-based community groups or charities to use for fundraising and on Saturday Clare Baptist Church will be selling Traidcraft fair trade goods.

The market also features a free stall for a Clare business to give market trading a try and this month sees the turn of Maison de Clements – which sells French country furniture, antiques, interior design pieces and vintage items for the home and garden.

Paul Bishop, chairman of Clare Town Council, said: “We are proud to have been involved in bringing about the return of the market in the summer last year.

“People are passionate about Clare market. We are pleased that both the local community and people from further afield have come to Clare to support it and we are looking forward to another successful market this Saturday.”

The market takes place on the third Saturday of each month between 8.30am and 3.30pm on Market Hill.
