The project which is called Behind the name tells the story of the men and women of Melton during the First World War.

It is hoped that the project will help those living in the village now to engage with its past through photos, newspaper clippings, documents and letters all gathered together.

Melton Heritage Group itself is made up of a number of other local groups including the WI, primary school and council.

Bryony Abbott of Melton WI said: ‘The Behind the Name project has uncovered new evidence about the changing role of women in Melton and how they stepped up to the challenge when their men went off to war.

“It’s fitting that this project is taking place in 2018 the year of Votes for Women and we are delighted that we’ve received this support thanks to National Lottery players.’
