A 32-year-old Suffolk man has been arrested after police found “two bin bags” of cannabis during an early morning vehicle check.

Mildenhall Police tweeted a picture of the drugs with a warning to criminals.

“Even at 4am, we’re actively looking for criminals that think they’ll never get caught,” the force tweeted.

The male suspect, a 32-year-old man from Newmarket, was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without insurance.

Police said the arrest was part of Operation Velocity, which aims to combat drug dealing in rural towns.

Announcing the launch of Operation Velocity, police said they wanted Suffolk to remain a “hostile environment” for those involved in the supply of drugs.

Much of the work aims to disrupt so-called “county lines” operations, whereby London gangs are moving into Suffolk, predominantly Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft.

Since launching the operation, hundreds of arrests have been made in Suffolk.
