KELLY Moran, one of speedway’s most spectacular and popular riders, died last night after a battle with illness.
American Moran, 49, raced for a host of clubs during a brilliant British career and first appeared for Hull in 1979.
Sheffield boss Eric Boocock, who was also in charge at Owlerton during Moran’s three-years with the club between 1986-88, said: “This is a very sad day for us all, Kelly was the most naturally gifted rider I have ever seen on a bike – and I’ve seen a lot of riders down the years. He lived life to the full and liked to party, but what a brilliant rider.”
