EAST Anglian model and musician Myleene Klass has been tipped to become the next co-presenter of Channel 4's Countdown after Carol Vorderman quit the show.

Bookmakers have begun to debate who will take the coveted role with Myleene, who grew up in Gorleston, coming in with odds of 12/1.

Over the weekend presenter Carol Vorderman claimed she quit because she was told to take or leave a 90pc pay cut.

Miss Vorderman, who has worked on the show for 26 years, said she had offered to accept a pay cut of one-third, in line with the show's 33pc budget cut. Her resignation followed the departure of the show's main presenter Des Lynam.

Today speculation was mounting over who could replace her, with suggestions including Anthea Turner and Ulrika Johnson.

"Carol will be an extremely hard act to follow, but the early money would suggest that Anthea Turner is in the running with Myleene Klass attracting the smart money," said a William Hill spokesman.

This morning Belgian businessman Marcel Stellman, who owns the show's rights, threatened to pull the plug in response to the alleged treatment of the veteran presenter.
