THE news that injured star Joe Haines is due to have his neck brace removed has led to hopes that the Bolton Flyer might make an unlikely comeback before the end of the season.

Whether that happens or not, Rockets team manager John Sampford is confident that the 17-year-old has the ability to get back amongst the points.

"The fact he may not ride again this season could effectively hold him back for a year, he'll be starting again next March where he was," said Sampford.

"I think though he's got the right attitude to put it behind him and when he is fit he'll be able to move on quickly."

As Sampford admits, injuries such as the one that has seen the Rockets miss out on the services of one of the country's most promising young riders will always be part of such an all action sport.

"Unfortunately its part of the sport, the injury threat is always there and there are very few who avoid it completely," said the Silver Ski Rockets boss.
