A five-year-old boy was freed from the wreckage of a three-car crash by firefighters in a Suffolk village today.

Three fire engines and police were called to Lion Lane, Needham Market, following reports of the incident opposite The Lion pub at 12.25pm.

Firefighters were forced to cut through the roof of a car involved in the accident to free the youngster, who suffered injuries “not thought to be serious” according to a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed the boy did not suffer “life-threatening” injuries, adding the five-year-old was taken to hospital.

He was rescued by 1.25pm, a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.
