Shoppers will be able to park in Newmarket for free after 1pm on the four Thursdays running up to Christmas.

The festivities in the town gets underway next Tuesday, November 14, with the first official Christmas Lights switch on and late night shopping in a decade.

The High Street will be closed from 3pm while shops remain open until 8pm and the free parking kicks in from Thursday, November 30.

Graham Philpot, Manager of Love Newmarket, the town centre management organisation said: “Newmarket High Street is doing Christmas in style and I am delighted that Forest Heath is continuing its support for local business by providing free car parking. We all hope customers enjoy what they find and come back to visit again.”

And Andy Drummond, the Mayor, added: “We have celebrated some remarkable events in Newmarket, most recently with the Tour of Britain. I am looking forward to welcoming families and friends to enjoy the festive spirit on our fine High Street.”‘
