SPEEDWAY: Scott Nicholls and Danny King will spearhead Ipswich Witches' 2010 Elite League challenge.

The popular English pairing are the first riders to be signed by the Suffolk club, and it is a move that to go down very well with the Foxhall fans, with both riders admitting they can't wait for the season to start.

Nicholls said: “After a terrible campaign last year I felt really at home back at Foxhall and enjoyed racing there. So much so, Ipswich was top of the list for me as far as 2010 was concerned.

“After spending so much time on the road the last couple of years I'm really looking forward to concentrating on and enjoying riding for the Witches. I can't wait to get going.”

Last year's skipper King added: “I'm absolutely delighted to be coming back to Ipswich. Last season was so enjoyable - the atmosphere in the pits was terrific and it was a real privilege to be team captain. I never had a thought in my mind about going to any other club in 2010.”

Certainly Ipswich's season picked up when Nicholls arrived mid-way through the 2009 season, replacing Jarek Hampel, and many fans have always felt the Ipswich-born rider is back where he belonged.

Witches manager Chris Louis says: “This is the best possible start for our team-sheet for next season.

“Danny was our Rider of the Year in 2009 and in Scott Nicholls everyone knows we have one of the most exciting performers in world speedway.”

Team Manager Pete Simmons was equally enthusiastic: “This is fantastic news for the club and our fans. Scottie will be an out and out No.1 for us, capable of double figure scores home and away.

“He did a brilliant job for us when he came in late last year and with the pressure of the Grand Prix series removed I think 2010 is going to be a great year for him.

“As for Danny, well he made great strides forward last year and I am sure that his career will really take off now that he is settled at Foxhall.”
