It’s going to be a cold and frosty weekend across the region, but weather experts say the chances of seeing snow are slim.

Temperatures are expected to dip as low as -2C (28.4F) in parts of Suffolk and north Essex across Saturday and Sunday.

However, Adam Dury, forecaster at Weatherquest, said snow was not on its way yet.

“There’s going to be cold air coming down from north,” he said. “It will be frosty and a bit wet but there will be no snow.”

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland and Wales as well as the north of England, Yorkshire and the West Midlands from 5pm today until 10am tomorrow.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: “A band of rain, sleet and snow showers will move from the northwest to southeast across the yellow area through Friday, clearing during the early hours of Saturday, followed by further wintry showers.

“Icy patches are likely to form on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall.”

Some areas of Britain may see two-five centimetres of snow by Saturday morning, the forecaster said.
