A PENSIONER was too alert for distraction burglars who tried to trick their way into his home.
The 79-year-old OAP answered the door to his home in Ipswich Road, Helmingham, at about 7.45pm yesterday after he heard banging on his door and windows.
When he went to the door he was confronted by a man in his 20s who claimed to have bought land in the area and was building some flats on it. He claimed he needed to enter the man's home to turn off the water supply.
However the pensioner was wary of the approach and triggered the emergency response alarm he was wearing around his neck. On hearing the alarm triggered inside the house the man at the door ran away, along with another man who appeared out of a laurel hedge nearby.
The pair ran off in the direction of Ashbocking.
Anyone with information about the identities of the pair or who saw them in the area should call Suffolk police on 01473 613500.
